Pezelos
Sithonia, Halkidiki

The idea
Pezelos takes its name from the pezoules, the dry stone terraces that have held these slopes for a thousand years. Here the terrace is inhabited. The rooms live inside the walls, and every roof is the garden of the room above. Walls hold the earth, screens hold the light, gardens hold the sky. Nobody is seen, and everybody sees the sea.

The water
At the water the hill opens into a spa carved into the last wall, its pool spilling over the edge into the Aegean. From the sea there is no building, only a green headland with lines of stone, and at dusk, lines of light.
