Crown of Christ
Lebanese coast

The brief
A small chapel on a stone breakwater at the edge of the sea, reached by a path between lavender planters.

The move
A crown. Folded corten planes rise from the ground and meet at a bronze mast and cross, and between them hyperbolic rope nets are stretched like sails, so the light comes in as a pattern of thorns. Inside, one room under a slatted timber soffit, one altar with a fresco of Christ enthroned, and the sea behind the congregation.
Scope
A concept by Pierre Zebouni. Design, drawings, timber model and visualisation by Pierre Zebouni. Lebanon.
